Behavior is EVERYTHING

For eight long years, I was stuck, trying to decipher the reasons behind the changes in my son Eric, the challenges faced by my aging parents, and the demands of a high-pressure job. I was consumed by a quest for understanding, but I learned a crucial lesson: generally, it's not the reason that matters, but the behavior itself.

This realization led me to develop "Love Another Way" - a transformative approach that shifts our focus from understanding why people behave a certain way to addressing how their behavior affects us. It's about setting clear boundaries and communicating effectively, not to change others, but to empower ourselves.

What Love Another Way Offers:

Empowerment: Learn to separate the behavior from the person and focus on how it affects you.

Effective Communication: Strategies to express your needs and boundaries without getting lost in the 'why'.

Self-Focus: A journey of self-discovery, learning to respond to behaviors impacting you, regardless of their reasons.

On this page, we delve into why behavior is the cornerstone of change and how "Love Another Way" can revolutionize your life through this shift in focus. This approach isn't just about observing behavior; it's about understanding its profound impact on us and learning how to respond in ways that empower us.

Redefining Responses: Beyond the Root of Behavior

Join me in exploring a game-changing strategy for dealing with life's challenges — focusing on behavior, not its causes.

I unveil a mind map that redefines our approach to personal empowerment and conflict resolution.

Through personal stories and real-life examples, I demonstrate the power of shifting from 'why' to 'how' we're affected by behavior.

Choosing Your Lane

Go further into the intricate balance of making decisions based solely on behavior.

Here I break down a vital concept…

… Behavior is the sum of our behavior and the other person’s behavior, and altering our response can shift the entire dynamic.

I also provide another example of how to differentiate between behaviors that affect us (our lane) and those that don't (not our lane).

Navigating Life’s Lanes

Joy nails the core reason why navigating what is our lane and what is not is so hard. Doesn’t matter if we are talking about our “hard” kids, our aging parents, our bosses or our friends. It’s a skill we need to develop.

Holiday Harmony

How redefining holiday traditions and embracing flexibility led to an unexpectedly joyful celebration, all while Joy stayed entirely in her own lane.

Avoiding that Vicious Escalating Cycle of Behavior & Response

One student asks Barbara exactly HOW to end the escalating cycle they find themselves in over and over. There are options, as Barbara explains.

Beyond Reasons: A Fresh Focus

My view on “why” looking for the root reasons for another person’s behavior keeps us stuck - and what we can do instead.

The Mind Map

Dear friend,

Has life handed you a plate overflowing with worries, grievances, and complicated problems that seem to be going nowhere but south? If it has, I want you to know that you are not alone. It's the unspoken truth of growing older - as we gain more wisdom, we also tend to pick up more stress along the way. I remember when my friend Sharon and I were sitting at her kitchen table, sipping on lukewarm coffee, discussing just this.

Sharon is not unlike you and me. She's seen her fair share of difficulties: complicated family dynamics, struggles with age-related health concerns, concerns over financial stability, among others. And she too felt lost in the storm of these challenges. But then something amazing happened...

Sharon discovered a pathway... a pathway to peace. She found herself transformed from an overworked, under-appreciated woman into a poised, self-assured lady who commands respect in every sphere of her life.
